Humperdinck: Hänsel und Gretel: Vorspiel (Hansel and Gretel: Prelude) - horn qua
Hänsel und Gretel is an opera by nineteenth-century composer Engelbert Humperdinck. It is much admired for its folk music-inspired themes. The opening prelude to the overture features a horn quartet solo for the first eight bars. I have arranged the remainder of the opening for horn quartet. It suits the mellow horn sound. It is performed later in the opera as "Evening Hymn.
