This is the best known of Mozart’s Masonic compositions . The Maurerische Trauermusik, K. 477 (479a) is scored originally for two violins, two violas, clarinet, basset horn, two oboes, two horns, and bass.
Mozart later added parts for two additional basset horns and bassoon, resulting in an instrumentation absolutely unique in Mozart’s vast output.
I have given the solo lines to the clarinet and oboe: this piece suits the classical wind octet.
The 2 horn parts in Eb and C basso remain relatively unchanged to Mozart's
2 ob,cl,hn and bsn.
